Twin studies in behavioral and health sciences

submission_1629_1956_coverImage_pt_BR_t.jpg

The book is jointly organized by USP professors from psychology, dentistry and medicine who are responsible for the FAPESP Thematic Project “USP Twins Panel”. Studies on behavior, health and well-being from an ontogenetic perspective using twins as a model are an active area of research. The book introduces readers to consolidated and emerging knowledge, based on research. It opens up perspectives for the interdisciplinary construction of theoretical and practical knowledge and possibilities for interdisciplinary actions. The increase in the rate of twin births is an important public health issue considering the risks to both children and mothers. The book, composed of 12 chapters, is organized into three parts: early development of twins, dentofacial development and research with twins on psychophysiological characteristics. The organizers are confident that students and professionals will be inspired by the enthusiasm of the chapter authors and will be able to discover new possibilities for professional and research activities. This work is part of the Coleção ABCD Agenda 2030 and is aligned to SDG 3 - Good Health and Well-Being, and SDG 4 - Quality Education (Objetivos de Desenvolvimento Sustentável).

Twin studies in behavioral and health research: current status, prospects and aplications

submission_623_623_coverImage_t.jpg

Um livro de Emma Otta e Tania Kiehl Lucci

Twin research is expanding at an increasing rate, largely due to evidence of genetic influences on many human characteristics thought to be of mostly environmental origin, such as religiosity and political participation. Methodological advances and statistical refinements have reshaped the classic monozygotic (MZ) - dizygotic (DZ) twin comparison into one of the most informative investigative tools, without detracting from its simplicity and elegance. The book is divided into five sections that together provide a unifying framework for the different chapters. The book organizers trust that this book will stimulate further research efforts by twin researchers worldwide, and that future contributions to twin research from interested scholars and students can be expected.
